Speech Language Pathologist

We are working with a large hospital in Charleston, SC who will have a temporary need for a Speech Language Pathologist starting in November. 

Job Summary:

-To provide a continuum of services, including prevention, identification, diagnosis, consultation and treatment of patients regarding speech, language, voice, cognitive – linguistic, and swallowing disorders.

-Provides test interpretation and clinical advice, which requires regular contact with patients, families, hospital staff and physicians.

-The Speech Therapist evaluates, assesses and establishes a treatment plan to meet the speech, language and/or oral-motor needs of the client.

-The Speech Therapist is responsible for determining and recommending functional communication systems for use by the patient as well as additional studies to evaluate swallowing and oral-motor functioning.

-Evaluates and develops written treatment plan based on patient history, signs and symptoms and evaluative tests/tools.

-Demonstrates competence with any age, race, sex and various diagnoses. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures and diagnosis-specific protocols. 

-Implements optimal, quality treatment according to departmental policies and procedures and evaluative findings.

-Give patient/caregiver instructed and/or trained in treatment to assist with discharge plan. 

-Performs documentation, on proper forms, per department policies and procedures/protocols. 

-Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.

-Attends and participates in scheduled meetings and in-services. 

Skills:

Requires the ability to work well with all levels of patients, the public and other health care professionals. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of various cultural and educational backgrounds.

Master’s in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited college/university.

Licensure/certification:

Current licensure to practice speech language pathology in the state of South Carolina is required. Holds the certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA or is in the CFY process. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
